During our trip to Costa Rica, we will savor traditional Costa Rican cuisine, which is known for its delicious dishes and is considered a key factor in longevity.
We will try "gallo pinto," the staple of a traditional breakfast, and we will also learn about what they call "el casado," a traditional dish with rice and beans, a mixture of grains that has health benefits due to the balance between the legumes and the rice.
This dish also includes an animal protein (beef, chicken, pork, or fish), and we will try new local vegetables, such as the traditional "picadillo" and fresh salad greens.
This delicious cuisine usually includes a cup of Costa Rica's world-renowned coffee, whether it's breakfast, after lunch, or anytime Costa Ricans enjoy coffee. We will taste it in a tasting guided by a professional sommelier, with whom we will learn to identify the aromas and even detect the defects in a coffee, thus learning to differentiate the different qualities of coffee.
With 20 people we visited the beautiful island "Chira" in the Gulf of Nicoya. We gained knowledge about environmentally conscious projects, and women entrepreneurs, and engaged in conversations with the locals about their customs and daily routines to ensure their longevity.
When the tourists in the group asked, "Which coffee should I buy to take back to my country?" The best answer was, Let's do a tasting with our sommelier and find out which coffee is your personal favorite.
We visited the local government of the city of Nicoya, where we participated in talks where we discussed the magic of Costa Rica's Blue Zone.
We learned about the different species of bees that locals use for beekeeping and for producing honey. With our sommelier, we did a guided tasting of different types of honey, where we were able to appreciate their aromatic differences, tones, and densities in an organoleptic transformational experience.
We learned about responsible fishing practices, learned about local regulations, and learned how fishermen work as a team to ensure people respect regulations. We also learned how to avoid fishing during closed seasons, helping authorities oversee compliance with the law, and working together.
We visited a workshop that makes tableware and clay items, maintaining original traditions dating back to pre-Columbian times. We chatted with the locals and learned how they work in harmony with nature.
